World Health Day,
celebrated on April 7, aims to raise awareness about issues that affect the health and quality of life of the population. The date was chosen because it was the same as the creation of the World Health Organization (WHO), a body linked to the UN, responsible for guiding, monitoring and regulating health rules at the United Nations. World Health Day
The WHO idea on that date is to show that being healthy goes beyond being not sick. Being healthy means having quality of life from a physical, mental and social point of view. The date clarifies to the population about what is most important in this matter, such as prevention, treatment and health promotion in the world.

According to the sports doctor at the Hospital das, Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of Botucatu (HCFMB) and doctor in Human Nutrition Applied by the University of São Paulo (USP) Dr. Franz Burini, being healthy involves several aspects.
“Feeling good, having healthy habits consistent with the preservation of vital functions (cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal systems) and good interaction with the family, social and work environment are essential.
The practice of physical exercises also has a favorable influence on all aspects mentioned, also reflecting on the quality of sleep and life expectancy. Physically active people live longer and better ”, he says.
And it was with this in mind that HCFMB pathology archivist Roberto Costa, 51, decided to change his life. Two years ago, Beto, as he is known, weighed 103 kg, consumed a lot of alcohol, smoked three packs of cigarettes a day and did not eat healthily.
“My life was sedentary, I had high cholesterol and spent an average of R $ 600 on medication”, he says.
Beto tried several times, but never managed to lose weight. After a day of an exaggeration, the blood test result was worrying. “The doctor told me that she was no longer able. If it continued like this, I would have little time to live ”, he said.
The archivist decided to change his habits. She did dietary re-education, stopped smoking, stopped drinking alcoholic beverages and opted to start exercising at a gym.
“I had a lot of willpower and I didn’t take any medicine. The academy teachers encouraged me, guiding me on the best exercises to lose weight and improve my physical conditioning. In 8 months, I lost 18kg ”, he says. World Health Day
Dr. Franz stresses the importance of preserving health by changing daily habits. “Who today does not have time or is not dedicated to taking care of their health, will certainly have to worry about taking care of their illnesses later. In this context, our quality of life should not be postponed or left out, it must be achieved daily ”, he says.
Currently, Beto is 25 kg less, has not returned to smoking or drinking. He accepted the invitation of three friends to participate in the Pedal Botucatu group, which brings together cyclists from Botucatu and the region not only for cycling but also for social actions. “When we learn to like ourselves, any change is easy. I feel much better than when I was 30 ”, he concludes.
