The renowned institution has just published a list of the top 20 fitness trends for 2019.fitness trends.
Thousands of experts linked to ACSM vote annually on what they believe will be a hit in the next 12 months within the universe of physical exercises. From these bets, a ranking is created, which is already in its 13th edition.
And this time, the top of the list went to wearable electronic devices. It is all kinds of technology used in sports, such as smartwatches, bracelets connected to applications on cell phones and even clothes with earphones attached.
“These devices can be an indispensable tool for those who are looking to become physically active,” says the study’s lead physiologist Walter Thompson, in a press release.
According to the expert, the possibility of monitoring heart rate, quantifying calorie burn and creating training plans is an incentive for a healthy lifestyle. “The collected data also inform the user and the medical team about the performance”, he adds.
In addition to popularity, the first place in the ranking is due to corrections made by the industry in the inaccuracies of the devices.
According to Thompson, the number of users of these devices has never been higher. “This means that more and more people have quick access to tools that can help them stay active,” he celebrates.
